According to political parties contesting the election, preliminary vote counts from Phase Two of the Multi-Party Democratic General Election held yesterday, January 11, show that the Mon Unity Party (MUP) is leading in four out of five townships in Mon State.
As part of Phase Two of the Multi-Party Democratic General Election, voting was conducted in Mon State’s townships of Bilin, Paung, Mudon, Thanbyuzayat, and Ye.
An official from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) said that the party is currently leading in the Bilin Township constituencies for the Pyithu Hluttaw (House of Representatives), the Amyotha Hluttaw (House of Nationalities) under the first-past-the-post system, and the State Hluttaw under the first-past-the-post system.
The official added, “In the Thaton–Paung Amyotha Hluttaw constituency (first-past-the-post system), our USDP candidate is leading by more than 25,000 votes.”
The same official said that in Paung Township, the Mon Unity Party is leading in both the Pyithu Hluttaw and State Hluttaw constituencies under the first-past-the-post system.
Similarly, an official from the Mon Unity Party said that MUP candidates are leading in the Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House), Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House)(first-past-the-post system), and State Hluttaw (first-past-the-post system) constituencies in Mudon, Thanbyuzayat, and Ye townships.
The official further noted, “Although we are currently leading in the vote results, vote tabulation is still underway to determine the exact number of votes received for the proportional representation (PR) system.”
During Phase One of the 2025–2026 Multi-Party Democratic General Election, voting in Mon State was held in Kyaikto, Thaton, Mawlamyine, Kyaikmaraw, and Chaungzon townships. In that phase, the Mon Unity Party won the Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyotha Hluttaw (first-past-the-post system) seats in Chaungzon Township, while the USDP won the remaining constituencies. In ethnic constituencies, the USDP won the Bamar and Karen ethnic seats, while the Pa-O National Development Party won the Pa-O ethnic constituency.
