Mine attack occurs at a railroad in Nyaunglebin on Oct 17

A railroad section between Peinzaluk and Tawwi stations in Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region was mined on early morning of October 17.

As a result of the explosion, both of the upstream train tracks were cut off and train traffic was temporarily stopped. At around 10 am, the railway was repaired and trains could resume.

Regarding the above incident, the press release of the information team of the State Administration Council said the Mandalay-Yangon No. 6 downstream express train that left Mandalay on the evening of October 16 and arrived near Bridge No. (136) between Milepost No. 98/4-5 Peinzaluk and Tawwi stations in Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region at around 3:15 am on October 17. It was reported that six new rails were damaged, the new tracks installed on the current upstream railway and the reconstructed downstream railway are cut by two feet each, and concrete sleepers were damaged as PDFs destroyed both upstream and downstream railways with mines.

Due to the damage, the No. 6 downstream express train had to backtrack to Peinzaluk station and stopped temporarily, and the Mandalay-Yangon No. 4 downstream freight train also had to stop temporarily at Kyauktakha station.

Due to the restoration of the railway that was damaged as above, it was completed at around 10:15 am on October 17, and the trains have been able to run normally again.

There had been 126 mine attacks on railway lines and station areas, 45 mine attacks on bridges and 12 arson attacks on railway stations and staff quarters in the entire railway sector since the month of February 2021.
