Mine attack occurs at a bridge between Kyauktaga and Peinzalauk stations in Nyaunglebin Township

A railroad section between Kyauktaga and Peinzalauk stations in Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region was mined around 9:30 pm on February 20, according to State Administration Council (SAC).

As a result of the explosion at the Bridge No.145 between milepost No.103/6-7,   the road section between Kyauktaga and Peinzalauk stations were temporarily cut off. Due to the explosion, 70 feet long railways and 36 concrete sleepers were destroyed, according to SAC.

Regarding the above incident, SAC said that No.914 downstream freight train which operates in Yangon-Mandalay railway had to stop at Kanyutkwin station, No.924 downstream freight train at the Phyu station, No.924-B downstream freight train at the Kywepwe station, No.653 upstream train at Oatwin station and No.902 downstream freight train at the Thaungtai station had to temporarily stop on February 20.

On February 21, No.11 upstream passenger train leaving from Yangon had to temporarily stop at the Nyaunglebin station at 9:48 am. Myanmar Railway staff distributed drinking water and lunch boxes to passengers on board the train according to the statement issued by the SAC.

Security forces came to the place and investigations have been carried out. Two railways which are about 70 feet and 36 concrete sleepers were destroyed. A 5 feet width hole occurred at the bridge floor.

Due to the restoration of the railway that was damaged as above, it was completed at around 3:30 pm and the trains have been able to run normally again.

There had been 130 mine attacks on railway lines and station areas, 47 mine attacks on bridges and 12 arson attacks on railway stations and staff quarters in the entire railway sector since the month of February 2021.
