Myanmar’s military has regained control of strategically important locations and a regional battalion headquarters along the Mandalay–Thabeikkyin–Mogok transportation corridor that had been temporarily held by PDF groups, according to official sources.
Military columns reportedly carried out a series of operations in Mandalay Region’s Madaya, Singu and Thabeikkyin townships, retaking areas one by one that were under temporary PDF control. As part of ongoing security operations to restore stability in the Mandalay–Madaya–Singu–Thabeikkyin area and ensure safe use of transport routes for local residents and travelers, the Mandalay–Madaya–Singu–Thabeikkyin road was fully brought back under control and reopened on December 31, 2025, the sources said.
In order to safeguard the livelihoods of local communities near the Thabeikkyin–Mogok area, facilitate smooth and efficient trade, and enable systematic management of surface and underground natural resources to support national economic development, the military has also been working to reopen the Thabeikkyin–Mogok route as quickly as possible. Operations were conducted to retake a local battalion headquarters and surrounding areas that had been temporarily occupied by armed groups.
Based on information provided by local residents and PDF members who had defected, security operations were carried out in phases. As a result, the military regained control of Nyaungbintha Village on January 11, Pozar Nwe Village on January 12, Kyauk Hlalbe Village on January 13, and on January 14 secured the battalion headquarters located along the route as well as the surrounding area of Seinkone Village, the sources added.
During the operations, a total of 37 large and small clashes reportedly took place. Fifteen bodies of opposing fighters were found, along with the seizure of 34 assorted weapons and related ammunition and equipment. Some military officers and soldiers were reported killed or injured in the fighting.
The military said it will continue necessary area-control and security operations in the region, including clearing armed groups believed to be hiding along the road section between Seinkone Village and Mogok. Authorities also stated that efforts will be intensified, in cooperation with local residents, to restore security and reopen road links connecting Mogok, Thabeikkyin and Mandalay, in order to ensure the safe travel and the smooth flow of trade in the area.
