Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun, secretary of Tatmadaw (Military) True News Information Team, has denied that there are persons under investigation of COVID-19 in the military, saying the reason military representatives in parliament wear face masks is to take preventive measures for their health.

He made the remark while responding to the media question about the news that the military has suspended the Armed Forces Day parade because of having persons under investigation among the troops to participate in the parade.

“Before calling the military personnel to come to Nay Pyi Taw for the military parade, they had undergone medical checkups at military hospitals. They have to take tests on other normal illnesses, let alone Wuhan virus. Military parade exercise has to be done with a tight schedule. They have to get up at 5 am and they have to do exercise almost all day. When they got here (in Nay Pyi Taw) they had to take health tests again. We also check them daily,” said Brig-Gen  Zaw Min Tun.

All military MPs attended the session of Union Parliament held on March 4 wearing face masks.

“The military takes great care of this (health). We live in military compounds. As we have to live amongst a crowd, we take care of our health. Statements and instructions have already issued. They are related to WHO instructions and announcements from the Ministry of Health and Sports.  This is why we also do this even in parliament, the brigadier general said.

Military MP Brig-Gen Maung Maung said the Ministry of Health and Sports has given instructions on wearing masks while officials from various ministries and other persons are found to be wearing masks at ceremonial events.
