The meeting between government and four members of northern allies is postponed to February due to Chinese New Year celebration, said Lamai Gum Ja from Kachin Peace-talk Creation Group (PCG).

Government delegation and representatives of four ethnic armed groups met informally on December 15, 2019 in Kunming, China and both sides agreed to meet again at the end of January. However the meeting is postponed due to Chinese New Year celebration, he said.

The Chinese New Year period is from January 25 to February 10 and the meeting will be resumed after that period.

Four ethnic armed groups proposed the government to free detainees mutually and make a neutral country to negotiate if a problem is occurred in December 15 meeting.

If both sides agreed it in next meeting, the bilateral signing will be a good prospect, he said.

Government delegation and northern allies met four times in Muse, Kengtong, Mongla and Kunming to sign bilateral agreement and the venue and time will be negotiated, he said.

Sun Guoxiang, special envoy for Asian affairs of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited some ethnic armed groups in border areas between Myanmar and China in early this month and met with the ethnic armed groups’ leaders.

Among them, Tun Myat Naing, chief of Arakan Army (AA), which is heavily clashed with the army, is included and the Special Envoy urged the AA chief to reduce tension and find a solution for peace.
