A public toilet built by an anonymous donor from Mandalay had won ASEAN Public Toilet Awards 2019-21, according to Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC).

The MCDC will build more public toilets in populated areas such as Swetaw Bus Terminal, Myodaw Garden and Maha Aung Myay gem market. Public use toilets have already been built in Pyigyi Mingalar cargo terminal and near Social Security Hospital, said Mandalay Mayor Dr Ye Lwin.

“Our Motto is that “The MCDC is for the city”. We are always trying to fulfill for the city in line with characteristics of a smart city. We are listening about the requirements of the public. Some people remarked comments in my Facebook page about the requirements. We are carrying out to fulfill the tasks by cooperating with respective department heads. In some cases, we cannot do immediately as we have no budget. People need to be patient about it,” said the mayor.

The ASEAN Public Toilet Awards is an initiative by the ASEAN Tourism Forum to address the quality standard issues in public toilets and accessibility to enhance the tourism industry in the region. The award winning public toilet from Mandalay is chosen as one of the best toilet among public toilets in Mandalay, Sagaing and Nay Pyi Taw.
