About six people shot a man to death in Amarapura Township, Mandalay City, on the morning of February 8, local sources said.

U Htay Kyi, aged about 50, living in Yekyipauk Village-tract in Amarapura, was shot by six unidentified men arriving on three motorbikes when he had pulled over his motorcycle and was taking a rest on the earth road beside the Expressway at mile post (361/4).

“The shooting incident happened when he was taking a rest on his motorbike up the Expressway. As it was just over 7 am, there were people around. He was reportedly shot 12 times,” said a local resident.  

He died of bullet wounds in many parts of his body and head. Bullet casings were also found at the scene.

Authorities are taking measures to expose and arrest the gunmen.
