On April 2, doctors, nurses, medical teams, and relief supplies from Japan's JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) arrived in Myanmar to assist with earthquake relief efforts. A plane carrying 11,229.1 kg of medicines, medical supplies, tents, and consumer goods landed at Yangon International Airport that morning.
The Japanese team, which includes 32 members consisting of JICA staff and medical experts, will provide medical care based on the needs on the ground. The Myanmar government has been swiftly assessing the damage in earthquake-affected areas and facilitating international humanitarian aid. Upon arrival, Colonel Than Naing Htun of the Yangon Regional Command, along with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Social Welfare, and the Ministry of Relief and Resettlement, coordinated the distribution of supplies to the affected regions.
The Japanese Embassy in Myanmar confirmed that the Japanese Disaster Relief Medical Technical Team will carry out necessary medical activities as conditions require.
