Jade merchant robbed and killed in Hpakant Township

The body of a man was found near Malan village, Lonekhin village tract, Hpakant Township, Kachin State on January 25.

Some people said that the deceased was Ko Myo Han, a 30-year-old man from Myitkyina. He was Kachin and Chinese mixed blood and rented a house near Hmawsizar village, according to those who knew him.

According to a local, the man was killed the previous night, and his body was found near his car. The back of his head was beaten and smashed, and there were knife wounds in his neck and face. It was later discovered that he was robbed of cash and jade worth over Ks.100 million.

The situation in Hpakant is dire, with more than 70 people killed due to accusations of being informants, and more than ten people missing, including towns’ elders, according to locals.
