The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a special weather advisory warning that due to the strengthening monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal—coupled with the influence of easterly wave disturbances—regions across Myanmar may experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential landslides from the afternoon of June 8 to June 15.

Affected areas include Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Ayeyarwady and Tanintharyi Regions, and Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Rakhine, and Shan States. Scattered to widespread thundershowers are expected, with some areas likely to see localized torrential downpours.

The department cautioned that the heavy rains could trigger hazards such as flash floods, landslides, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, hail, and sudden river surges. Residents near hilly areas are urged to be vigilant for landslides, while those near small rivers and streams should prepare for potential flooding. Travelers using domestic waterways and air routes are also advised to monitor conditions closely.

Additionally, the forecast for June 2025 indicates a possible low-pressure system forming over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, which could intensify into a depression. The southwest monsoon is expected to strengthen moderately over these regions during the period.
