Strong monsoon wind may bring rain across Myanmar and isolated heavy rain may pour down in three regions including Yangon, according to a weather forecast made by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology on August 5.

Rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread in Shan (east) and Kayah states and widespread in the remaining regions and states with likelihood of regionally heavy falls in Taninthayi Region, Kayin and Mon states and isolated heavy falls in Nay Pyi Taw and Magway Region.

Recorded rainfalls are 9.09 inches in Shan Ywar Thit, 7.60 inches in Dawei, 6.89 inches in Longlon, 5.08 inches in Hpa-an (Agriculture), 4.65 inches in Chaungsone, 4.56 inches in Kyainnseikkyi, 4.45 inches in Mudon, 4.09 inches in Kyaikkami, 4.02 inches in Hlaingbwe, 3.90 inches each in Paingkyone and Myeik, 3.70 inches in Shwegun, 3.54 inches in Kyaikmaraw, 3.11 inches in Belin, 2.87 inches in Thandwe, 2.84 inches in Hakha, 2.79 inches in Kawkayeik, 2.68 inches in Taunggut, 2.56 inches in Paung and 2.50 inches in Saw respectively.

According to the observations made at 1:30 pm on August 5, the low pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal (off North Odisha - West Bengal coasts) (India) had crossed North Odisha coasts (India). Monsoon is moderate over the Andaman Sea and South Bay and strong elsewhere over the Bay of Bengal.

Rain or thundershowers will be fairly widespread in lower Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway regions and widespread in the remaining regions and states with likelihood of regionally heavy falls in Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states and isolated heavy falls in Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions. Degree of certainty is 100%.

Occasional squalls with rough to very rough seas will be experienced in the Gulf of Mottama, Deltaic, off and along Rakhine coasts and rough seas will be experienced elsewhere in Myanmar waters. Surface wind speed in squalls may reach 40-45 m.p.h Gulf of Mottama, Deltaic, off and along Rakhine coasts and 40 m.p.h off and along Mon-Taninthayi coasts. Wave height will be about 10 – 16 feet in Gulf of Mottama, Deltaic, off and along Rakhine coasts and about 8-12 feet off and along Mon-Taninthayi coasts, it said.

Monsoon will be from moderate to strong for next two days, it said.
