Gold shop and gas station robbed in Panglong amid rising crime wave

Panglong town in Shan State (South) witnessed two robberies on January 8, as a gunman stole three tical of gold from a local shop and another assailant targeted a gas station on the outskirts of the town.

According to eyewitnesses, the first robbery took place at Khin Oo Gold Shop near the north of the market in Panglong at around 12:00 noon. A man who pretended to be a customer asked to see some gold ware, then pulled out a gun and fled with the precious metal. No one was injured in the heist.

The second robbery occurred at the Golden Way gas station on the road to Panglong exiting Loilem town at around 1:00 pm. The details of the crime are still unclear, as the police are investigating the scene and the amount of money or goods taken by the robber.

On December 27, 2023, four people, including the owner and his family, were brutally murdered at U Tin Tun mobile phone shop near Panglong Market.

On December 19, a driver of a small bus line running between Taunggyi and Panglong was killed and his vehicle was stolen by unknown perpetrators. The culprits of these crimes are still at large, and the police have not made any arrests or identified any suspects.
