As recurrence of COVID-19 and closure of border gates and poor transportation, exports of beans and pulses stopped.

As Canada beans imported from China also came to a stop, the prices of locally produced beans and pulses have higher during these days. As a result, chick pea prices rose to Ks.10, 000 per bag. The prices of lentil, butter beans and lablab beans have higher according to Mandalay Beans and Pulses merchants.

“The prices of chick peas have higher. The main reason for higher in prices is due to little left in the local market and no import from China. Therefore, chick pea prices rose to Ks.10, 000 per bag these days. As there is no green pea left in the local market, people use more chick pea and as a result, the prices of chick pea have higher. The prices of beans and pulses normally consume in local market has increased. Although Yangon wholesale market has opened, pigeon beans export depends on shipping. The price of red beans is Ks.150000, a Kyauktwin bean is Ks. 150000 and a butter bean is Ks.9500,” said information in charge from Mandalay wholesale market.

“Sales of beans and pulses are not good these days. Only chick pea got good prices. There is less trading at the wholesale market. Around 50 people came to do business. Even Pigeon beans and Mung beans didn’t sell as much as before. Export of oil crops to China also stopped. Only sales of a small amount of beans for domestic consumption taking place at the market.  Peanuts cannot be stored for a longer period of time. The price of peanut is falling. As the raw material price has fallen, the price of ground nut oil has also reduced,” said Beans and pulses merchant U Swe.

U Nge, the owner of ground nut oil mill in Mandalay said that the price of ground nut oil hasn’t fallen remarkably. We can’t export peanut to China and domestic consumption has declined, and so, the price has fallen a little. There is no new harvest of ground nuts these days. The good quality peanut oil is Ks.7000 and lower quality is Ks.6000 per viss.
