Nay Pyi Taw--For new employment opportunities, priority is being given to the emergence of qualified human resources, said Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population U Thein Swe, at the opening of 4th National Stakeholder Forum on Implementing the Decent Work Agenda and Labour Law Reform, at Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 24 February.

“The ministry is mainly working on necessary amendments to the labour law, enabling the workers to enjoy basic labour rights, effective social protection measures, creating new employment opportunities and long-term economic development through the inflows of foreign investments,” the minister added.

Better management of labour sector is one of the major points for the long-term economic development of the country. Strong legal framework would enable workers to equally enjoy basic labour rights, establish the stable worksite relation, lessen the wealth gap and boost the productivity. It would help support the inflow of FDI which is a major driving force for economic development in developing countries only when these frameworks meet international standards. The set frameworks will serve as a check and balance, he added.

According to the labour organizations Law 2011, the ministry issued certificates to 2,990 labour organizations and 29 employer organizations from 2012 to 2019
