Myeik University and China’s Third Institute of Oceanography have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in research activities.
The MoU signing ceremony between Myeik University and the Third Institute of Oceanography, based in Xiamen, China, was held on September 7 at the Pearl Thitsar Hall of the main building of Myeik University, located on Nat Sin Road in University Ward, Myeik Township, Myeik District, Tanintharyi Region.
Myeik University Rector Dr. Win Win Ei and Director-General of the Third Institute of Oceanography Dr. Zhang Haifeng delivered remarks at the ceremony. An introductory video on the research activities of the Third Institute of Oceanography was also shown.
Dr. Win Win Ei and Dr. Zhang Haifeng subsequently signed the MoU on research cooperation. The two sides exchanged copies of the memorandum and commemorative gifts before taking a group photograph.
As part of efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability of marine and coastal resources, support regional socio-economic development, and obtain information related to global climate change, Myeik University’s Department of Marine Science will install a seawater quality monitoring device on the western coast of Pha Thaw Island, near Myeik.
The department will also conduct marine scientific research and offshore surveys in connection with the project.
