A vehicle carrying members of the Myeik District Natural Disaster Management Team was attacked by an armed group while returning from a flood relief mission in Taninthayi Township on September 5, leaving one team member seriously injured.
The team had travelled from Myeik to Taninthayi to provide flood-affected residents with basic food items, relief supplies and emergency materials, as well as to provide healthcare services.
The attack occurred in the evening as the team was returning to Myeik. According to the report, the vehicles came under gunfire from an armed group positioned across a river near the Kamto Village road junction, after leaving Rampho Village in Taninthayi Township.
One member of the Myeik District Natural Disaster Management Team sustained serious injuries in the shooting.
The injured man suffered a gunshot wound that entered and exited his left upper arm and another bullet wound to the left side of his abdomen, which was described as serious.
He was initially admitted to the emergency department of Military Hospital No. 5/100 in Myeik for treatment. On September 6, he was transferred to the emergency department of Myeik People’s Hospital, where he remains hospitalised.
