Dr Myo Nyunt, spokesman for the National League for Democracy (NLD), U Han Thar Myint, former ABFSU leader Ko Min Thwe Thit and student leader Ko Aye Aung were sentenced to prison terms, according to a source close to the court.

The order was issued on December 30 at the Insein Special Court.

"Dr Myo Nyunt and U Han Thar Myint were sentenced to two years in prison each under Section 505 (b)," said an advocate.

Dr Myo Nyunt and U Han Thar Myint were arrested in related with two statements issued by the NLD on February 3 and 7 and charged under Section 505 (b).

Min Thwe Thit, a former central committee member of the All Burma Federation of Students' Unions, was also sentenced to one year in prison.

Min Thwe Thit has been detained since February 1 and was sentenced under Section 95 of the Vehicle Safety and Motor Vehicle Management Law.

He has been detained since February and is expected to be released in just three months.

Ko Aye Aung, an alumnus of 1996-1997, was also sentenced to three years prison terms with hard labour under Section 505 (a), sources said.
