Cyclone may form in Bay of Bengal in Thadingyut full moon day: DMH

A cyclone may form in Bay of Bengal on Thadingyut full moon day and is likely to head towards Rakhine coast, said Director General Dr Kyaw Moe Oo of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

“According to our forecast, the low pressure area will occur around October 21 and it may intensify into a depression the next day. It will become a cyclone on October 23 and level up to a severe cyclone next day. It may enter Rakhine coast on October 25 but the direction of the storm is changing all the time. Some have said that it may enter Bangladesh,” he said.

A low pressure area may form over the Bay of Bengal and it may further intensity into a depression. Weather is partly cloudy over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, according to weather forecast for third 10 days of October by the DMH.

Rain or thundershowers will be expected above normal in Yangon and Ayeyawady regions, Rakhine and Kayin states, about normal in lower Sagaing, Bago and Taninthayi regions, Shan, Kayah and Mon states and below normal in upper Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway regions, Kachin and Chin states. Rainy days will be expected 4 to 5 days in upper Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayin and Mon states and 2 to 3 days in lower Sagaing Region and Kayah State.

A depression occurred over Bay of Bengal on October 8 and it was further intensified into a severe cyclone on October 10. The wind speed was up to 100 mph and entered India on October 11. It became less destructive and changed as a low pressure area on land on October 13.

The storms occurred in April, May, October and November at Bay of Bengal and storms formed in early and late rainy season are very severe and caused much destruction.
