According to a press release issued by the Kyaikto Township Health Department in Mon State on June 9, a male patient who tested positive for COVID-19 has been identified in Kyaikto Township, Mon State.
The patient is a 25-year-old man who recently moved from Yangon to Kyaikto. He had been living in a rented house in one of Kyaikto’s urban neighborhoods for about three months. The COVID-19 infection was detected when he underwent a medical examination as part of a job application process, according to the health department’s statement.
The department also reported that the patient had not received any COVID-19 vaccinations. Although he is currently in stable condition, he is under medical observation and receiving care at Kyaikto Township Public Hospital.
This is the first confirmed COVID-19 case reported in Mon State in 2025.
Previously, on May 10, 2024, a 67-year-old woman from Kyauktanlay Village in Kyaikto Township experienced sudden respiratory distress and sought treatment at Theinzayat Hospital. A subsequent lab test confirmed that she had contracted COVID-19.
During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, Mon State recorded a total of 5,193 confirmed cases and 83 related deaths, according to the State Department of Public Health and Medical Services.
