Traffic authorities are planning to take a trial test at control center to control 151 traffic lights in Yangon on May 8 and 9, announced Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA) on May 5.

The control center is located inside People Square in Yangon and it will be the last test. It will be handed down to the YRTA if the trial test is successful, said Dr Maung Aung, Secretary of the YRTA.

The trial test periods will be from 7 am to 10 am and from 3 pm to 7 pm on May 8 and 9.

“We have conducted a survey to monitor traffic build-up at each traffic light in order to better regulate vehicle flow. The signals will be reduced or increased based on the traffic build-up at each light,” said Police Maj. Myo Aung Myint from the Traffic Police Force.

The YRTA urged the drivers to be careful of their driving during the trial test.

The traffic control system in Yangon is installed according to the survey of the number of vehicles conducted over two years ago and the system is needed to be adjusted due to the increasing number of vehicles.
