As fighting continues in Rakhine State, a thousand more people from five villages have fled to Sedipyin Village in Yathedaung Township, according to sources from Sedipyin camp for internally displaced persons.
They were fleeing the villages located along the western bank of Mayyu River in order to escape from firing of heavy and small weapons.
“There have already been over 2,000 displaced people. They are now living in camp. Now again these days, a thousand more were fleeing in fear. Previously, shells have fallen on their villages. They were coming from the villages of Aukkyaungtaun, Sapokyun, Aungzegon, Pyinwun and Kanpyin,” said local resident Tun Myint.
A volunteer expressed his concern that with about 2,000 IDPs already and more in Sedipyin Village, there will be difficulties with their living conditions such as meals. He said food is being provided by the village and more donations are necessary.
Some of the IDPs are taking refuge at their relatives’ homes, he added.
