The first landing took place in Surbung airport in Phalum, Chin State on the morning of October 27.

“Today, the first landing took place here in Surbung airport with an ATR-72 plane without any passengers on it. I don’t think there will be any more trial runs like this. There will be an opening programme for the airport. The authority is pleased with today's trial run. The airport meets the requirement of a standard airport such as runway and sound system. We don’t know when the opening will take place. It is the biggest project in Chin State. As it cost Ks.12 billion, the locals desire that heads of State to open the airport. They are waiting for the time when the heads of state are available. We will submit the trial run report to Myanmar Aviation,” said Chin State spokesperson and Minister Soe Htet.

The airport runway measures 6000 feet in length and 100 feet in width. The airport is built for landing and takeoff of ATR-72 aircraft. It is above 6000 feet of sea level.

Construction of the airport started in 2015-2016. It will shorten travel time for both local and foreign visitors. It is the very first airport in Chin State and passengers can directly travel to Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw and Kalay.
