The elected Bamar Ethnic Affairs Representative has stated that there are plans to begin initiatives related to Bamar cultural affairs in Shan State.
“As a representative of the Bamar ethnic group, I will carry out activities related to Bamar affairs. In Shan State, there are many ethnic groups and various cultural organizations. However, for the Bamar community, there are almost no cultural organizations. We aim to form such groups and collaborate with other ethnic communities, fostering friendship and cooperation,” said Bamar Ethnic Affairs Hluttaw representative Daw Khin Htwe Aung.
She added that traditional Bamar cultural elements—such as doe pat (traditional drum ensembles), ozi drum troupes, and dance groups—are currently lacking, making it difficult to showcase Bamar cultural performances. If such cultural associations can be established, it would create opportunities to organize traditional drum groups and cultural dance performances, allowing Bamar culture to be more visibly expressed.
It is reported that the elected ethnic affairs representatives in the Shan State Hluttaw for 2026 include U Kain Mai representing the Kachin ethnic group, Daw Aye Cho Sein representing the Kayan (Padaung) ethnic group, Daw Khin Htwe Aung representing the Bamar ethnic group, U Wilson Moe representing the Lahu ethnic group, Daw Ngwe Hlaing representing the Lisu ethnic group, U Tun Aung representing the Akha ethnic group, and Daw Tin Tin Yi representing the Intha ethnic group.
It is also reported that four committees of the Shan State Hluttaw have been formed and approved.
During the third day of the first regular session of the Third Shan State Hluttaw, held on March 30, the Speaker U Sai Lone Kyaw submitted the lists of members for the four committees, which were subsequently approved by the Hluttaw.
