A joint team of the Anti-Narcotics Police and the Myanmar Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC Myanmar) made a major drug bust in Yaksawk Township, southern Shan State, on January 17.

Acting on a tip-off, they stopped and searched a Hilux vehicle and a 6-wheeled truck near Htinkwin village, at about 7:30 pm. The vehicles were driven by Zaw Win Thein and Aung Pyae Sone Oo, who were going from Yaksawk, southern Shan State. The search revealed 25 millions of stimulant tablets hidden under charcoal bags on a 6-wheeled truck. The tablets were worth about 12.5 billion kyats in the local market.

The two drivers were arrested. Further investigation led to the arrest of Aung Kyaw Myo (aka) Ye Htut (aka) Shan Lay, who had hired the drivers to transport the drugs.

According to CCDAC Myanmar, the drugs were intended to be trasported from Kyaukgu Village, Yaksawk Township to Shwenyaung town, Taunggyi Township. The arrestees are facing legal action and the authorities are trying to track down and arrest more suspects involved in the drug trafficking network.
