The Arakan Army (AA) declared on December 29 that they are always ready to resolve the internal affairs of Myanmar through political means rather than military solutions.

In their statement, the AA group affirmed that they recognize and welcome any foreign investments in the Arakan region that contribute to the region’s development and economic growth. They also pledged to ensure the safety and protection of individuals involved in such investments, including security for businesses, projects, and investors. The group expressed their willingness to cooperate with these companies and work together for mutual benefit, ensuring the continuation of foreign investments and projects in the region.

Additionally, the AA group highlighted their active participation in various areas over the past years, particularly under the leadership of the People’s Republic of China. This includes efforts to stabilize the Myanmar-China border region, combatting violence, and addressing issues such as online gambling. The group emphasized their continuous collaboration with other organizations such as the Kokan and Taang groups, working towards agreements like the “Haingjin Agreement,” and stated that they are still committed to resolving Myanmar’s internal issues through political means rather than military action.

On September 2, 2024, the National Central Committee for Counter Terrorism (NCSCT) declared the AA, along with the MNDAA and TNLA, as terrorist organizations.

The AA announcement came after the Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry’s advisor, Hikhusin, on December 22 stated that it is not possible to engage in discussions about the reparation of the Bengali refugees as the AA is not a state-level organization.

Currently, in Rakhine State, the AA group has continued to engage in military actions, attacking military bases and controlling several cities. They are still conducting ongoing military operations in the region.
