A monk was shot dead in Ywa Kone village, Myaing Township, Magway Region, on January 7 and his father was also killed, according to the information team of the State Administration Council (SAC).

U Khema Thara, the presiding Sayadaw at Mahanandi Ma Kyi Taw Monastery in Ywar Kone Village, Myaing Township and his father, U Hla Pyuu, were at the monastery when the PDF arrived at around 7 pm on January 7 and opened fire with small arms, killing the presiding Sayadaw and his father.

Similarly, on the night of December 18, a group of people arrived in a car while U Thuzata, the presiding Sayadaw at Dhammathukha Aung Myay Yadanar Monastery in Wetpot Village, Myaing Township, is sleeping in the monastery with two other monks and they took Sayadaw U Thuzata alone in front of the monastery, They stabbed him to death near the entrance of the monastery.

In a six-month period from May 3 to November 11, 2021, one monk from Momauk Township, one monk from Mohnyin Township, one monk from Mindat Township, two monks from Kani Township, one monk from Pale Township, two monks from Minkin Township, one monk from Kawlin Township, one monk from Kalay township, one monk from Monywa Township and one monk from Wundwin Township were killed, according to a report released on November 16.
