Authorities inspected 3,326 factories across Myanmar including 2,602 in Yangon Region whether they met the criteria set by the Ministry of Health and Sports, and 845 of them could reopen immediately as they received level A, said Zaw Htay, spokesperson of the President Office.

He revealed the information during an online press conference on May 1.

The factories were checked from April 20 to 30. In Yangon Regoin, 540 received level A, 1894 level B and 168 level C. Of the 724 factories checked in other regions and states, 305 received level A, 397 level B and 22 level C.

“Level A means they have been checked. They can operate again as they met health guidelines. For those factories receiving level B, they have to make some repairs and changes. Then, they can reopen. Those with level C need to follow the suggestions of the inspection team and they have to be checked again,” Zaw Htay said.

He added that the factories had been urged to follow the instructions and guidelines from  the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population and the Ministry of Health and Sports in order to reduce levels B and C.

“Criteria have been announced for factories. They need to make changes and repairs. Then they must invite authorities for checks. By doing so, we can reduce levels B and C. We have given them suggestions such as physical distancing,” the spokesperson said.
