A surgical team at North Okkalapa General Hospital has successfully reattached the severed index finger of a 25-year-old man injured in a workplace accident.

The patient, a resident of Mingaladon Township, suffered the injury while operating a wood-cutting machine at a sawmill on the morning of July 2. His left index finger was severed around the middle and he was initially taken to Insein General Hospital before being transferred to the Hand Surgery Unit of the Orthopaedic Department at North Okkalapa General Hospital later that day.

After an emergency assessment, specialist surgeons performed a complex finger reattachment operation from 5:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. the following day.

Following the surgery, the patient received close monitoring and post-operative care from hand surgery specialists. The reattached finger remained viable, allowing him to be discharged from the hospital on July 16, 14 days after the operation. He is now continuing rehabilitation exercises to restore function.
