Four Myanmar citizens were killed and nine others injured after a car illegally entering Thailand via Phayathonesu border road in Mon State overturned in Kanchanaburi province on August 28, Thai media reported.
The car carrying 13 illegal Myanmar migrants overturned on Highway 323 in Sangkhla Buri district at about 4am on August 28 killing three men and one woman and injuring nine.
“The accident happened on the border between Mon State and Thailand’s Kanchanaburi. As they were illegal migrant workers, there could be no compensation. But there should be some aid out of sympathy. The Thai lawyers’ council and the labour attaché should be contacted for help. I want to urge our people to come to Thailand through official channels so we can avoid any repercussions,” said U Moe Gyo, chairman of a Mae Sot based organization, Joint Action Committee for Burma Affairs (JACBA).
Thai police and rescue teams were trying to contact relatives of those who died in the car accident while arranging medical treatment for the injured and taking measures to take action against those who crossed the border illegally, the Thai media reported.
