River water has entered homes along the riverbank in Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Ngazun Township, Mandalay Region, after the water level reached the danger mark of 1,150 centimeters. Township authorities have been assisting residents in relocating to safer areas since August 10, according to the Ministry of Information.

As part of the evacuation efforts, 69 households comprising 194 people and 14 cattle from Ward 1; 63 households comprising 171 people, 30 cattle and eight pigs from Ward 2; and 84 households comprising 233 people and three cattle from Ward 3 were assisted in moving to relatives’ homes and to Shwe Kyaung North Monastery, Kyaung Thit West Monastery and Inwa Monastery.

Authorities said that if the river rises about two feet above the 1,150-centimeter danger level in Ngazun Township, it will be considered an unusually high river level. Lo Kanat Hall and Moe Thingyi Hall have been designated as temporary shelters for residents if further evacuation becomes necessary.
