Myanmar’s Vice President U Nyo Saw called for population trends, future demographic projections and regional population differences to be integrated into the country’s long-term development planning.

Speaking on behalf of the President at the 2026 World Population Day ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw, he said effective policies on poverty reduction, healthcare, education, gender equality, employment and social protection depend on a clear understanding of demographic changes.

He also stressed the importance of accurate census, survey and statistical data to support policymaking, investment planning, public services and regional development.

The Vice President described demographic change as both a challenge and an opportunity, urging government agencies, development partners, experts, civil society and the public to work together to build an inclusive, rights-based society focused on human dignity.

The event also featured a presentation on Myanmar’s demographic trends by Immigration and Population Union Minister U Myint Kyaing and the screening of a World Population Day animation. Vice President Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye, senior government officials, diplomats and representatives of UN agencies attended the ceremony.
