Kalaw Township recorded the highest pass rate among the eight districts in Southern Shan State in the 2026 university entrance examination, according to the Office of the Head of the Shan State Education Department.

Based on the township-wise examination results covering Taunggyi, Loilem, Langkho, Kalaw, Monghsu and Namsang districts, as well as the Pa-O and Danu Self-Administered Regions, Kalaw Township achieved the highest pass rate of 60.71 percent.

Kalaw Township had eight examination centres, with 1,233 of the 2,031 candidates passing the examination.

Pinlaung Township ranked second with a pass rate of 53.22 percent, as 695 of 1,306 candidates passed across seven examination centres. Yaksawk Township placed third with 52.95 percent, where 503 of 950 candidates passed at six examination centres.

Taunggyi Township recorded a pass rate of 49.22 percent, with 1,966 of 3,994 candidates passing at 10 examination centres. Pindaya Township followed closely with 49.21 percent, as 342 of 695 candidates passed at four examination centres, while Namsang Township achieved a 49.03 percent pass rate, with 227 of 463 candidates passing at two examination centres.

In Nyaungshwe Township, 654 of 1,501 candidates passed the examination at seven examination centres, resulting in a pass rate of 43.57 percent.

Among schools in Taunggyi Township, No. 4 Basic Education High School recorded the highest pass rate, with 103 of 137 candidates passing, equivalent to 75.18 percent.

An official from the Office of the Head of the Shan State Education Department said that detailed township-by-township examination results for Southern Shan State will be released at a later date.
