99 pickpocket suspects arrested in Yangon between April 20 and July 7

Yangon -  A total of 99 suspected pickpockets were arrested in Yangon between April 20 and July 7 during security operations targeting theft on YBS buses, at bus stops, and in other crowded public areas, according to sources.

Police said security personnel conducted intelligence-gathering operations and undercover surveillance across Yangon Region to curb organized pickpocketing activities. The operations led to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of individuals allegedly involved in the crimes.

During the operation period, authorities recorded 117 pickpocketing cases across several townships, including Htantabin, Insein, Hlaing Tharyar (East), Hlaing Tharyar (West), Thingangyun, Botahtaung, Dawbon, Thaketa, Lanmadaw, Latha, Mingalar Taung Nyunt, North Dagon, East Dagon, Dagon Seikkan, Pabedan, Kyimyindaing, Sanchaung, Mayangone, North Okkalapa, Kamayut, and Bahan.

Among those arrested were 94 men and five women, bringing the total number of suspects to 99.

Police also seized evidence believed to be linked to the pickpocketing cases, including 140 mobile phones and 6.57 million kyats in cash.
