The Shan State Parliament has approved the appointment of U Sai Htain Soe, a member of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), as the Chief Minister of Shan State.
The decision was made during the fourth day of the first regular session of the third-term Shan State Parliament, held on Monday, April 6. U Sai Htain Soe, who represents Yatsauk Township Constituency No. (2), was nominated for the position by the President and formally submitted to the parliament for approval.
As there were no objections from parliamentary representatives, the Speaker, U Sai Lon Kyaw, announced that U Sai Htain Soe had been officially appointed as Chief Minister.
During the session, the Speaker also presented a proposal—submitted by the President-elect—to set the number of state ministries at seven, with seven ministers to be appointed. However, two parliamentary representatives suggested that the state government should instead be formed with ten ministers.
The Speaker announced that the names of the ministries will be submitted on April 7, and further discussions on the matter will continue on April 9.
In addition, the parliament approved the President-elect’s proposal to appoint four judges to the Shan State High Court, according to the Speaker.
