The Myanmar government has allocated Ks170 billion in seed funding to support the development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), with Ks20 billion used for direct MSME support and the remaining Ks150 billion earmarked for loan disbursement, according to a deputy minister.
Deputy Minister Daw Than Than Lin, Chair of the Fund Management Committee, made the remarks at the first meeting of the MSME Management Committee for 2026, held on January 29 at Meeting Hall No. 46 of the Internal Revenue Department.
She said the fund was established by the state to promote MSME development and that, in line with decisions made by the MSME Committee, Ks20 billion has been allocated for development assistance, while Ks150 billion is being used to provide loans to MSME operators.
Loans are being issued in accordance with financial regulations and lending procedures governing the MSME Development Fund, with a focus on low-interest financing, she added.
As of January 23, loans totaling Ks7.155 billion had been disbursed to 190 MSME business owners, Daw Than Than Lin said.
She said that the loan granting procedures have been relaxed to make it more convenient for MSME entrepreneurs to obtain loans. In addition to the Myanmar Economic Bank and the Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank, 16 private banks have been allowed to participate as PFI banks to provide MSME development loans more quickly and widely. He said that PFI banks need to be scrutinized to ensure that MSME loans are disbursed more quickly and that loans are used effectively.
Then, Deputy Chairman of the Fund Management Committee, Deputy Minister U Thwin Aung said that MSME production activities based on agriculture and livestock must be encouraged and promoted, and efforts must be made to help solve the difficulties they are facing, including the need for financial capital. He said that as the chairman of the agency, the agency is an organization that implements the MSME development policy and provides technology and information to MSMEs. The Fund Management Group is working with the Fund Management Group to provide financial support and bank loans to entrepreneurs.
Afterwards, the Fund Management Group members discussed the status of loan disbursements from the MSME Development Fund, the balance, and loan approvals. Next, Deputy Minister Daw Than Than Lin, said that the MSME Agency and the Fund Management Group should work together to quickly and accurately assess the financial resources needed by MSMEs for the development of MSMEs in accordance with the guidelines of the MSME Working Committee.
