USDP wins 15 of 16 townships in Yangon Region in Election Phase (2)

According to information learned from political parties, candidates from the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), including Prime Minister U Nyo Saw and retired Deputy Police Chief U Aung Naing Thu, have won in 15 out of 16 townships in the Yangon Region where Election Phase (2) was held.

Representing the USDP, Prime Minister U Nyo Saw won the Pyithu Hluttaw (House of Representatives) constituency in Coco Island Township, while retired Deputy Police Chief U Aung Naing Thu won a Regional Hluttaw constituency. In Coco Island Township, only the USDP and the People’s Pioneer Party (PPP) contested the election.

In Yangon Region, 16 townships took part in Election Phase (2). In the Kyimyindaing Township Pyithu Hluttaw constituency, USDP candidate Daw Ei Ei Hlaing was defeated by independent candidate Zaw Tika U Khin Hlaing.

“We have won in 15 townships. We lost the Pyithu Hluttaw constituency in Kyimyindaing. We do not yet know the result for the Regional Hluttaw constituency,” said a responsible official from the USDP in Yangon Region.

Election Phase (2) was held on January 11, 2026, in 100 townships nationwide. In Yangon Region, the participating townships were Bahan, Pabedan, Lanmadaw, Kawhmu, (

Kyungyankone, Dagon Myothit (North), Dawbon, Pazundaung, Hlaing, Shwepyitha, Htantabin, Hlegu, South Okkalapa, Coco Island, Kyimyindaing, and Insein.

In Election Phase (1), which was held on December 28, 2025, USDP candidates were also elected in 12 townships in Yangon Region.

Although the official results for the 100 townships that participated in Election Phase (2) have not yet been announced, social media posts by some USDP officials claim that the party has won in more than 50 Pyithu Hluttaw constituencies nationwide.
