In Shan State’s Linkhay Township Pyithu Hluttaw (House of Representatives) constituency, the Shan and Ethnic Democratic Party (White Tiger Party) has won the seat, while in Hopong Township, the Pa-O National Organization (PNO) party has secured victories in all three First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) constituencies, according to reports.
In Election Phase (1), a total of 12 townships in Shan State participated: Pindaya, Hopong, Nawnghkio, Kengtung, Tachileik, Taunggyi, Namsan, Muse, Monghsat, Lashio, Linkhay, and Loilen.
The winning Pyithu Hluttaw candidate for Linkhay Township is Sai Htun San (also known as Sai Se Han) from the Shan and Ethnic Democratic Party (White Tiger Party).
Similarly, in the Hopong constituency, PNO candidates Khun Kaung Chit Htun won the Pyithu Hluttaw seat, and Khun Nyo Maung won the Shan State Hluttaw seat. Although Khun Htine won the Amyotha Hluttaw (House of Nationalities) seat, the constituency he contested—Shan State Amyotha Hluttaw Constituency No. (3)—covers the entire Pa-O Self-Administered Zone. Therefore, the final outcome will depend on the results from Pinlaung and Hsisai townships in the upcoming Election Phases (2) and (3).
Meanwhile, in other remaining constituencies in Shan State included in Election Phase (1), the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) is reportedly leading.
“In Lashio, the USDP has won. In Muse, the White Tiger Party initially had a strong position, but by the final count, the USDP took the lead. The margin was not large. Nawnghkio was also won by the USDP,” said a source familiar with the vote results in three townships in northern Shan State.
Although some parties did not secure victories under the FPTP system, the number of representatives political parties will obtain in the proportional representation (PR) constituencies for the Shan State Hluttaw and the Amyotha Hluttaw will only be known after all three election phases are completed.
