A meet-and-greet event was held for independent candidates who will contest the upcoming election.
The event took place on December 20 at Escape by Aurem in Yangon, where the candidates met with members of the media.
“There are more than 90 individual candidates running in the upcoming election. Among them, over 40 have formed a small group online, where each candidate shares their own campaign activities. This time, we organized a meeting with the media. All of us are also carrying out on-the-ground campaigning. We provide whatever assistance we can and help one another mutually,” said Daw Aye Sandar Myint, who will contest as a regional parliamentary candidate for Kamayut Township.
At the event, Dr Min Nyo delivered a talk as a guest speaker, and several independent candidates gave campaign speeches.
“Our main goal is to encourage people to vote, and then to vote for the candidates they support,” Daw Sandar Myint added.
In the multi-party democratic election to be held on December 28, a total of 95 independent candidates will contest: 51 in Pyithu Hluttaw (Lower House) constituencies, three in Amyotha Hluttaw (Upper House)constituencies, 33 in Region and State Hluttaw constituencies, and eight in Ethnic Affairs Hluttaw constituencies.
