The Chairman of the Electricity and Energy Development Commission and the Union Minister for the President’s Office 1 U Tin Aung San inspected the status of the Floating Storage Unit (FSU) moored at Thilawa Port in Yangon Region, the Regasification Unit (RGU), and the initial power generation capacity of 150 MW at Thanlyin 200 MW power plant on the morning of December 19, according to sources.

During the visit, the Chairman of the Electricity and Energy Development Commission, the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, and the Chairman of the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation visited the Thanlyin 200 MW power plant at Thilawa Port. Officials from Everest Energy Solution Ltd. and CNTIC VPower Group Holdings Ltd. briefed them on the implementation status of the Thanlyin 200 MW and Thaketa 300 MW power plant projects, the storage status of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the FSU, the process of converting LNG to gas, the status of the test run of the power plants, and the initial power generation of 150 megawatts.

Then, the Chairman of the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation and officials from the power generation industry explained and submitted the requirements. The Chairman of the Electricity and Energy Development Commission ordered that efforts be made to produce up to 500 megawatts of power from the power plants according to the target dates, that LNG is a high-cost energy source, that waste be minimized, that the power plants operate continuously and that the efficiency of the machines be improved, and that any difficulties or needs in the implementation of the project be reported in a timely manner. They inspected the initial power generation of 150 megawatts from the 200-megawatt power plant in Thanlyin.

Afterwards, the Chairman of the Electricity and Energy Development Commission visited the Thilawa Port MCV jetty and inspected the berthing status of the FSU, the pipelines for transferring the LNG stored in the FSU to the regasification unit, and the LNG regasification control room.

To enable the operation of the Thaketa and Thanlyin LNG power plants, the LNG storage ship FSU arrived at Thilawa Port, the first ship carrying LNG imported from abroad arrived next to the FSU and refueled it, and the test run of the regasification Uunit was completed, and the first phase of the test production of 40 megawatts was completed.

Starting from December 17, the power generation capacity has been increased to 150 megawatts, and the total power generation capacity of these projects will be increased to 500 megawatts, with emphasis being placed on generating more electricity to meet the electricity needs of the public and industrial zones.
