The Thanlyin Oil Refinery Project is being implemented to address the fuel shortages in Myanmar and a new oil refinery is being built as a first step, said Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin.

On December 19, Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, along with officials, inspected the construction of the new refinery at No.1 Oil Refinery (Thanlyin) in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region.

The Union Minister said that the Thanlyin Oil Refinery Project is the first step in solving the difficulties faced by the people, and that the new refinery project is being implemented as a first step. He said that the new refinery will be completed as soon as possible in accordance with the standards, and that the issues to be addressed in each section of the project, as well as the work to be done simultaneously, must be carefully prepared and constructed.

In addition, the Union Minister said that the first phase of the modular type refinery, which will provide quick win to the public, is being built to reduce the difficulties faced by the public in purchasing and using fuel, and that the responsible parties will work closely to ensure that the work is completed on time.

Then, he inspected the Thanlyin Oil Refinery Project and the status of the transportation and installation of equipment and related equipment from Thilawa Port.

The Union Minister also met with the Ministry of Energy staff serving in Yangon Region and said that the employees who supervise and inspect the distribution of high-pressure natural gas CNG and fuel must work diligently to ensure that the public is not harmed. He also urged them to diligently carry out regular, periodic and random inspections to ensure the safety and security of the public, and to coordinate the employees' submissions with the responsible parties.
