Prime Minister U Nyo Saw attended the opening ceremony of the 31st ASEAN Transport Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings held on November 20 at the Jasmine Naypyitaw Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
The Prime Minister said that the election serves as an important milestone in restoring democratic governance and promoting national unity.
The event was joined by Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Myint Htun Oo, ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, transport ministers from ASEAN member countries, senior officials, and delegates from dialogue partner countries. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn delivered the opening address.
In his remarks, Prime Minister U Nyo Saw said that the holding of elections is an important milestone for restoring democratic governance and strengthening national unity. He added that ASEAN’s Vision 2045 emphasizes the interconnected nature of its three community pillars—political-security, economic, and socio-cultural—and highlighted the need for greater integration and connectivity as ASEAN moves toward a more dynamic and people-centered community beyond 2025.
In addition, this year marks an important time for ASEAN transport cooperation, as it marks the final year of the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan (2016-2025) and the year to welcome the ASEAN Transport Plan (2026-2030). He also congratulated the signing of the ASEAN-New Zealand Air Services Agreement in accordance with the Declaration of the 47th ASEAN Summit. This is an important milestone in strengthening air connectivity, facilitating trade and tourism, and deepening people-to-people ties. Transport connectivity is not only about infrastructure, but also a strategic measure for stability, progress, and community building. He also said that through this connectivity, he believes that if we work together to maintain the spirit of ASEAN partnership with mutual respect and unity, we will achieve greater progress.
The Prime Minister said that his country will hold a multi-party democracy general election in December, and that the election serves as an important milestone in restoring democratic governance and promoting national unity. He appreciated the understanding, support and positive engagement of the ASEAN family in his country’s election, and that he believed that ASEAN would continue to stand as a stronger and more united community in the future. He thanked ASEAN member states, dialogue partners and the ASEAN Secretariat for their continued cooperation and support. He urged them to continue to implement the common vision of building a stable, peaceful and prosperous ASEAN, and hoped that this meeting would also yield fruitful discussions.
Then, those attending the ceremony with the Prime Minister took a commemorative group photo and watched the video clip of the song Strengthening Connectivity, Sharing The Future, and adjourned the opening ceremony.
