A homemade mortar shell fired by the People’s Defense Force (PDF) landed and exploded inside the Letpantaung Copper  Mining Project compound in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, killing a Myanmar security guard, according to reports.

The attack occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on August 16, 2025, when PDF groups launched homemade mortars at the compound. One of the shells exploded inside the premises, fatally injuring U Kyaw Naing (aged 43), a security guard from Wanbao Company and a resident of Watan Village, Salingyi Townshipin Sagaing Region.

It was reported that no buildings or structures were damaged in the incident.
