India has donated a shipment of cement to support the construction of the Kalewa–Yargyi section of the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, according to official reports.
On May 27, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Abhay Thakur, officially handed over 275 metric tons (MT) of cement at Yangon Port. This donation is seen as a symbol of India's support for Myanmar’s earthquake recovery and infrastructure development. A portion of the donated cement will be used for the Kalewa–Yargyi segment of the trilateral highway project, according to a statement from the Indian Embassy.
The Kalewa–Yargyi–Monywa road stretches approximately 115 miles and includes 174 temporary timber bridges and 183 culverts. The construction of this road began in 2000 and it was officially opened between 2003 and 2004.
Following this, India has been supporting the upgrade of 69 bridges located along the Yargyi–Kalewa road, as well as roads from Kalewa to Kyikone, Kalay, and Tamu. These enhancement works have been carried out under India’s Grant Aid program since 2018.
