Heavy rainfall on the morning of August 5 caused a retaining wall to collapse in the  Panma Ward in western Mogok Township in Mandalay Region, damaging two houses and injuring one person, according to local sources.

Following the incident, members of the western Mogok Auxiliary Fire Brigade, the township Red Cross, relevant government departments, and social welfare organizations jointly carried out clearance and rescue operations at the site.

A separate retaining wall collapse also occurred in Aung Thit Lwin Ward in western Mogok after heavy rain, damaging one house.

No injuries were reported in the Aung Thit Lwin incident, where the retaining wall reportedly collapsed after being eroded by floodwaters.

The Mogok Township Fire Services Department, the Red Cross, and the Parami Social Assistance Association are continuing to provide cleanup operations and necessary assistance to affected residents.

The Parami Social Assistance Association has urged people living in mountainous areas such as Mogok to remain vigilant during the rainy season, warning that prolonged heavy rainfall can trigger landslides, retaining wall collapses, and other natural hazards. Residents living near hillsides and retaining walls have been advised to closely monitor conditions and take necessary precautions.

"We haven't seen a landslide in Mogok for quite a long time. Retaining walls in Panma Ward had never collapsed before. It has been raining continuously over the past few days, and the streams are overflowing. The current is very strong, and the water level has yet to recede. If this continues, floodwater could start entering homes in some areas," a Mogok resident said.
