The No. 2 Steel Plant (Pinpet) Project is being implemented to help meet the country’s steel requirements, with 20 of the project’s 22 workshops having been successfully installed and test-operated, according to the Ministry of Industry and MSME Department.
The remaining two workshops—the Heat Recovery Power Station (HRPS) and the Romelt Shop—are being urgently installed and commissioned to enable the entire plant to complete operations and commence full-scale production.
On the afternoon of October 3, Deputy Minister U Thwin Aung inspected installation works being carried out at the HRPS in cooperation with foreign experts from Russia’s Tyazhpromexport Co., Ltd. (TPE) and plant employees.
During the inspection, the deputy minister said the No. 2 Steel Plant (Pinpet) Project is of great importance to the country and called for all personnel to contribute to its successful completion to the best of their abilities. He urged officials to anticipate the tasks to be undertaken after the HRPS is commissioned and make the necessary preparations in advance.
He also instructed that installation works be completed according to the set schedule and that challenges encountered during implementation be addressed collectively. He stressed the need to issue and enforce workplace safety rules and regulations as local orders to ensure safety at the project site.
Once installation and commissioning of the HRPS are completed, the facility will be capable of generating 40 megawatts of electricity. Of this, 32 megawatts will be used within the plant, while the remaining eight megawatts will be supplied to the national power grid.
