A railway bridge between Hnin Pale and Taungzun stations in Bilin Township was bombed early this morning, forcing the temporary suspension of train services, according to local sources.

The explosion occurred around 5:30 AM near Thintawgyi village, Kawtkadut village-tract, damaging the locally known "Siyoe" railway culvert bridge. A resident reported, "Part of the bridge collapsed due to the planted mine explosion. Unexploded homemade mines were also found nearby."

Officials from Mawlamyine Railway Station confirmed that the 80-foot-long Bridge No. (65), located between mileposts 112/10 and 112/11, was targeted. As a result, Train No. 82 (Mawlamyine-Yangon) and Train No. 81 (Yangon-Mawlamyine) have been canceled. Passengers with pre-booked tickets for Train No. 82 were allowed to claim refunds at Mawlamyine Station between 7 AM and 10 AM.

Authorities are working to repair the bridge swiftly.

This follows another bombing on May 3 targeting the Moegaung Bridge on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway in Thanbyuzayat Township. Since February 1, 2021, the Yangon-Mawlamyine railway line has faced at least 12 bomb attacks on bridges, passenger trains, and freight trains, according to regional sources.
