The Kabaw Valley is located in Myanmar’s territory and some Indian politicians should not damage bilateral relations for their own political interests, said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the State Administration Council (SAC).

Speaking about the Manipur region on the India-Myanmar border, the Kabaw Valley issue, and the statements of Mizoram MPs, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun added the following.

“The Kabaw Valley region that we are talking about is also included in the previous measurement. There is also a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the border region between Myanmar and India signed on May 8, 2014 as the border demarcation between Myanmar and India. Regarding the Kabaw Valley region, in the past and in 2013, an opposition party in India, the BJP, had campaigned to take back the Kabaw Valley region, which includes Tamu, Kalay, and Minkin townships. The locals have protested against these in both Kalay and Minkin townships. Therefore, I would like to say that Myanmar will always stand as a good neighbor and friend to India. I would like to say that some politicians in India should not damage the bilateral relations for their own political interests. I would like to say that Myanmar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected. I would like to say that Myanmar will continue to do what it should inform and say on these issues,” said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun.

In addition, the news that Indian Mizoram MP K. Vanlalvena visited the northwestern parts of Myanmar bordering India was reported on The HINDU news website, and Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said that the MP crossed the border from Mizoram into Myanmar.

Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said, “The Hindu news website also reported that the Mizoram Governor and the Border Guard Force were informed about that trip. Then, he met with the CNF, CNA, and Chin PDF groups. In addition, regarding the Indo-Myanmar border area, Tamu, and Kabaw Valley, a Manipur MP has said in the Indian Upper House that it belongs to India based on past history. In addition, on the issue of foreigners entering Myanmar through Mizoram, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma spoke in the Mizoram Parliament on March 10.”

Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said that the Times of India also reported that nearly two thousand foreigners visited the border region of Aizawl between June and December 2024 and did not travel within the state. The main purpose of the visit was to cross into Myanmar and interfere in Myanmar's internal affairs, and that the official report in Parliament stated that the purpose of the visit was to interfere in Myanmar's internal affairs.

“In response to media inquiries regarding these issues, I would like to say that Myanmar and India are good friends. Myanmar is cooperating with India on its Act East Policy. As Myanmar has said before, the Myanmar government does not want groups using Indian territory to oppose Myanmar, and Myanmar does not accept groups using Myanmar’s territory to oppose the Indian government. In this regard, there has been a lot of cooperation between the two countries for border security. There have been many successes. The Indian government knows that cooperation has been demonstrated in practice,” said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun.

Myanmar is living in accordance with the five principles of peaceful coexistence that have been agreed upon with India and is living as good friends. Regarding the Myanmar-India border, the Myanmar-India border is over 1,010 miles (1,626 kilometers) long, and more than 907 miles (1,460 kilometers) have been measured, and most of the border areas has been measured, said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun.
