UNICEF Myanmar has announced that it will provide 42,000 kyats per month to children with disabilities between the ages of 2 and 18.

Children with disabilities between the ages of 2 and 18 who have been verified as having severe or very severe disabilities, and who have received a phone call to inform them that they are included in the support program, will receive 42,000 kyats per month and will be paid directly to the beneficiary every two months via Wave Money, and will be supported for a maximum of three people in a family, UNICEF said.

Ineligibility includes situations where the beneficiary does not meet the criteria listed in the beneficiary section, the child with disabilities does not live with the family, the child with disabilities has moved out of the designated area for a long period or died, the child was initially identified as disabled but is no longer disabled at the next screening or the registered information cannot be verified correctly, UNICEF said.

The grant will be used to purchase food for children with disabilities, provide medical care if they are unwell, provide personal hygiene, purchase assistive technology for the disabled, provide rehabilitation services and education.

The purpose of the grant is to provide families with adequate care, support, and resources for children with disabilities, and to supplement family income, and to support families’ participation in society, UNICEF announced.
