Due to the flooding of the Attaran River, riverside villages in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State, have been experiencing flooding for about 10 days, and there are needs for clean water, food, and medicine, according to local residents and social aid organizations.
A local resident reported that villages located along the Attaran River in Kyaikmaraw Township have been experiencing flooding for about 10 days.
The resident continued, "Most of the houses in the villages are on stilts, so the water hasn't reached the main houses yet. However, the villages are submerged. Currently, there is a need for clean water and food, and as the flooding continues, there is also a need for medicine."
As of the morning of August 4, the water level in the Attaran River had slightly receded, but since it is still raining, the water level could rise again, the resident added.
Local residents stated that the flooding could persist in Kyaikmaraw Township due to the influx of water from the Zami River, which originates from Kayin State, and if the Thanlwin River does not recede.
Due to the flooding of the Attaran River, many areas in Kyaikmaraw town are submerged, and donors and social aid organizations are providing clean water and food to the affected areas, said an official from a social aid organization in Kyaikmaraw.
The official further stated, "Currently, along with the flooding, many snakes are moving to higher ground, including onto houses. Residents should be cautious of land hazards in addition to the flooding, and if they encounter snakes, they should report to the Myanmar Fire Services Department (Kyaikmaraw) or social aid organizations."
Currently, donors and social aid organizations from towns such as Mawlamyine, Mudon, Thanbyuzayat, and Kyaikmaraw are providing clean water, food, and medicine to the flood-affected areas in Kyaikmaraw Township.
Additionally, due to the flooding of the Attaran River, 25 basic education schools in Kyaikmaraw Township have been temporarily closed.
